La explotación y uso medicinal de los manantiales de la localidad de Guadarrama (Comunidad de Madrid) se desarrolló durante el primer tercio del siglo XX, cuando en esta localidad se construyeron balnearios, colonias y centros de salud, en un contexto de cambios en la organización del sistema de salud y de implantación de las ideas defendidas por médicos higienistas y del movimiento Regeneracionista. En torno al manantial de La Porqueriza se constituyó una colonia veraniega, formada principalmente por miembros de la burguesía madrileña, con modos de vida saludables que apreciaba las propiedades medicinales del agua, el aire y el paisaje de la Sierra de Guadarrama en contraposición de los problemas sanitarios de la urbe madrileña.
Abstract:
The exploitation and use of medicinal springs in the town of Guadarrama (Community of Madrid) occurred during the first third of the twentieth century, when resorts, colonies, and health centers were built, in a context of changes in the health system organization and the implementation of ideas then defended by hygienists doctors and regenerationists. Around the La Porqueriza spring a summer colony was formed, consisting mainly of members of the bourgeoisie of Madrid, who practiced healthy lifestyles and appreciated the medicinal properties of water, air and the landscape of the Sierra de Guadarrama which contrasted with health problems of Madrid.
